WORLD RENOWNED GUITARIST INJURED - LOCAL CONCERT POSTPONED.

Albert Lee and Hogans Heroes will now be appearing at the Barn at the Square + Compass, Nr Ilminster on July 2nd and not April 25th as advertised.
Albert, who has played as part of Eric Claptons band as well as guitarist with Bill Wymans Rhythm Kings, the Everley Brothers and EmmyLou Harris and played a major part in the George Harrison Memorial Concert broke his arm when he tripped on a dodgy pavement in Paris 2 days ago. It was the middle of the day, Albert tripped, went down and sustained a fracture and break in his right arm. Specialists advise that it would not be possible to continue the April tour dates. Ticket holders for the April show can still use their tickets for the July concert.
Albert has returned to his LA home in the USA to recuperate and apologises for any inconvenience and hopes to see all his fans again in July.

Tickets for the outdoor July 3rd Fab Beatles/Rollin' Clones concert at Lulworth Castle can now be purchased from the Stable Café at the castle.

They took the place by storm last time. I had more complimentary e-mails about this band than any other!

ROXY MAGIC are a band of experienced musicians who combine to reproduce the diverse music and imagery of the hugely influential ROXY MUSIC and pop icon BRYAN FERRY. All the hits are performed with skill and enthusiasm in an exciting tribute to the highly regarded ROXY MUSIC with Kevin Hackett performing lead vocals in the unique style and look that is BRYAN FERRY, Kevin is a huge BRYAN FERRY fan and knows the man’s style better than most as he’s seen him perform live many times. He is so immersed in the vocal style of FERRY that he sounds like him even when singing songs by other artistes! Kevin’s image and vocal delivery is so stunningly like BRYAN FERRY that you have to remind yourself that he isn’t the genuine article.

ROXY MAGIC perform their set of best remembered ROXY MUSIC hits totally live, their show is a celebration of the sounds of ROXY MUSIC and BRYAN FERRY. Because of the unique range of ROXY MUSIC and BRYAN FERRY's music, from art rock to disco; 30's ballads to rock & roll and ultimately to the smooth sophistication of 'Avalon', the set has a great deal to offer to an appreciative audience, ROXY classics performed include ‘Virginia Plain’, ‘Avalon’, ‘Dance Away’, ‘Street Life’, ‘Love is the Drug’, ‘Let’s Stick Together’ along with a host of massive hits and proven live favourites like ‘Re-Make/Re-Model’, ‘Ladytron’ and ‘Both Ends Burning’. See and hear for yourself –
you’ll be truly dazzled and amazed!

I was talking to Harry recently and neither of us can remember where we played in Liverpool last. I remember the Peter Green  opening at the Irish Centre, then a Theatre we’ve forgotten the name of, then we played in the Hanover Hotel....actually, looking at it like that it seems like we’ve gradually gone downhill instead of up!!   This gig will hopefully rectify that, we’re both looking forward to getting back there again and seeing some of the old Producers fans.

One of the very best blues vocalists and slide guitarists this country has produced. Dave is well known for his 20+ years with The Blues Band but from the beginning he’s played with some of the greatest blues artists in the world – including Howling Wolf, John Lee Hooker, Son House & Buddy Guy. He’s had his own Dave Kelly Band on and off for over 20 years, as well as performing solo and touring an acoustic blues duo show with Paul Jones – this man simply lives and loves the blues! Dave has written and performed music for various films, tv series and ads including the Montreux Rose winning Strike starring Robbie Coltrane and the BBC four part drama series, King of the Ghetto, starring Tim Roth. He is an honorary patron of The London Guitar College along with Hank Marvin. Dave was voted Best Acoustic Artist in the B B C polls 1991, 1994, 1996, 1997 and 1998. If there is such a thing as a British 'blues pedigree', then Dave Kelly's sets the standard. Kelly is a blues craftsman - a journeyman who has served his time with the best.

In New York he jammed with Muddy Waters. He became a friend to Howlin' Wolf and John Lee Hooker, who both felt the benefit of Dave's playing in their touring bands. It was Dave's big sister, the late Jo-Ann Kelly, who first opened his ears to the blues, although his passion for rock and roll - and especially the work of Buddy Holly - remains intact. In 1967 he joined The John Dummer Blues Band. After three albums and a solo project he continued to polish his style and technique throughout an adventurous career with some of Britain's finest players. When The Blues Band was formed in 1979, the post of slide guitarist and joint vocalist was a foregone conclusion, Dave Kelly's guitar and vocals form the very backbone of The Blues Band's distinctive sound.

Today, after 21 years 'treading the boards' with the band, with his solo albums, duo tours with Paul Jones, and soundtrack work (for commercials and such projects as BBC TV's 'King of the Ghetto' and the Comic Strip's 'Strike!') Dave Kelly is firmly estabished as Europe's premier blues performer.

"Bill Sheffield takes the stage unpretentiously, cradling a vintage Gibson Acoustic or his trusted Martin OM. At first he appears almost shy, his eyes scanning the room, making connections. He slowly starts into his own rendition of an old blues classic, maybe Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters or Blind Blake. Before long Bill takes control of the stage, captivating the audience. Combining a finger picking style that rolls over you like a freight train with his electrifying and dazzling guitar work. There is no denying it, Bill Sheffield is a master of the Blues and a true master of the guitar. He exudes the personality of the songs he sings playing every song from the heart. The minute you hear him you know.........."

Although the foundation for Bill Sheffield’s music is the Blues, the live concert contains elements of many other genres’; folk, country and gospel. Classifying it as Blues may be too limiting. “Americana” may be the better description. Honest, gutsy, and passionate, an evening orchestrated by Bill Sheffield promises to be an unforgettable musical experience.

Lisa Mills from Mobile Alabama is an exceptional singer and songwriter singing in Janis Joplins first band 'Big Brother and the Holding Company' after Janis' demise performing all of the Janis Joplin parts, while given the freedom to give her own interpretation of the music. She toured with BBHC for three years throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe. Lisa grew up in and around Hattiesburg Mississippi, beginning her singing career in the church that her grandparents actually built. Gospel was her first musical love, and still is deeply embedded in her artistic foundation. Her mother loved Elvis, and her father loved Hank Williams Sr. Mix that in with a few Brenda Lee records and Lisa had quite a diverse road along which to develop her early musical education. She has been compared to Etta James, Billie Holiday and Brenda Lee but her main comparison is an extraordinary vocal similarity to Bonnie Raitt.
Led Zeppelins Robert Plant found her and had no hesitation in asking her to open his American stadium shows - they have performed on the same bills across the US and Europe. Lisa also appeared with Dr John on his UK tour last October and, although she has played in front of more than 40,000 people Lisa admits to liking it best when she can connect with her audience - so these 3 intimate venues are perfect for her. Accompanied by Ian Jennings of Big Town Playboys/Jeff Beck/Van Morrison/Eric Clapton fame on upright Bass we are all in for a treat! Take Robert Plants advice 'You should all check her out - she has a wonderful voice'. I've seen her and I can tell you it's all true! If you don't see another gig this year - see this one!

As well as playing R&B and soul there's an element of ska, reggae and the odd rap thrown in. Because of this fusion of old and new and their sheer energy they appeal to a wide range of ages - are popular with students and for parties. The Banned have played theatres and music venues all over the country including The Edinburgh Fringe Festival where they have sold out for two years running. INFO
A much requested return visit for blues/rock guitarist Larry Miller. Larry is promoting his latest self penned and produced album ‘Fearless’, this is just one of over 700 gigs so far on his never ending quest to inspire a magnitude of Blues/Rock lovers worldwide, selling out most venues whilst doing so.

During the 80’s his debut album made No 2 in the Melody Maker charts, he regularly sold out Londons legendary Marquee Club and played a storming set at Reading Festival impressing a certain guitarist by the name of Jeff Beck in the process. He featured in a ‘Top 10 Strat Players’ compilation by Blues Matters magazine alongside Peter Green, Eric Clapton, Roy Buchanan, David Gilmour and the aforesaid Jeff Beck. He storms into his shows with passion, spirit and pure guitar genius and with the new album release is sure to go to the top of the blues/rock tree once again. If heavy blues/rock is your scene - don’t miss Larry!

INFO

Determined to make something of his music career, five years ago Derrin Nauendorf arrived at Heathrow airport from Australia with a guitar, £1200 and several extra layers of clothing to acclimatise to the drop in temperature. From this, Derrin spent those next five years playing anywhere that would have him, sleeping on floors and living on tuna baguettes. Things looked up a few years ago when he purchased an old Post Office van, which then became his home for the next six months, more importantly, it allowed him to get gigs, and essentially his music, out into the real depth
